Meet The ArtisŦ.
Stephen Buechner of Steve B. Art is a southwest Florida-based mixed media artist. He obtained his BFA from the University of Houston with specialization in Graphic Design in 1986. His artistic ambition, however, began long before college with inspiration from his Uncle Bruce who was a sculptor and print-maker. From his studio in Cape Coral, Florida Buechner produces a prolific volume of artwork with a focus on abstract painting, and print-making. In recent works, Buechner has begun exploring new art mediums, including the use of collage and Gelli-Plate mono printing to present new inspiration and fluidity in his painting style.
The Creative Process
What is a monoprint?
As the name implies a monoprint is a unique printed image with unique marks and characteristics.
How are these prints made?
These are done using a gelli plate, a gelatinous surface that has the unique ability to release whatever inks or paints that are applied to it, creating interesting and beautiful results.
What kind of materials are used?
The prints are done on archival acid free paper, either 100% cotton or acid free cellulose pulp. The paints are acrylic water based paints, brilliant pigments in a non-toxic medium.
